Ingredients:
- Fresh fruit (such as orange, lemon, lime, apple, and cinnamon)
- Sugar
- Water
- Brandy or other spirits
- Spices (such as cloves, nutmeg, and star anise)
Instructions:
- Cut the fresh fruit into small pieces and place them in a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the sugar and water to make a simple syrup. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add the brandy or other spirits to the bowl with the fruit and stir to combine.
- Add the spices to the bowl and stir again.
- Let the mixture sit at room temperature for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Just before serving, stir in the simple syrup to thin out the mixture if desired.
- Serve the fruit compote chilled, garnished with additional fresh fruit or spices if desired.
