Ingredients:

  • Fresh fruit (such as orange, lemon, lime, apple, and cinnamon)
  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Brandy or other spirits
  • Spices (such as cloves, nutmeg, and star anise)

Instructions:

  1. Cut the fresh fruit into small pieces and place them in a large bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the sugar and water to make a simple syrup. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Add the brandy or other spirits to the bowl with the fruit and stir to combine.
  4. Add the spices to the bowl and stir again.
  5. Let the mixture sit at room temperature for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld together.
  6. Just before serving, stir in the simple syrup to thin out the mixture if desired.
  7. Serve the fruit compote chilled, garnished with additional fresh fruit or spices if desired.
